Watch the pass-through fees: courts and DMVs charge access fees that Checkr passes through at cost, and reviewers report bills well above the sticker price in fee-heavy states. Add-ons are also per-check: MVR $9.50, identity verification $4.99, employment verification from $12.50, drug screening from $10. Checkr also sells separate Tenant ($24.99 to $44.99/report) and Personal (free profile; self checks from $49.99) products.
Prices are per background check report (Workforce packages), pay as you go. Third-party court and DMV access fees are passed through at cost on top of the report price. Checkr pass-through fees and what they cost
Checkr's package prices don't include pass-through fees. These are access fees that courts, state DMVs, and third-party databases charge to hand over records. Checkr passes them on at cost with no markup, so what it is charged is what appears on your invoice.
When reviewers say a bill came in well above the package price, these fees are usually why. Budget for them before you compare Checkr's per-report price with another vendor's quote.
Which fees apply depends on where a check has to search, so you won't know them when you place the order. County court fees vary by courthouse, and every state DMV charges for a driving record. Checkr publishes ranges for the other fees:
- Education verification: $3.95 to $50.00
- Employment verification through third-party databases: $17.95 to $119.95, or a one-time $58 fee for a direct match
- DOT verification: $7.00 to $70.00
- Pennsylvania state criminal search (PATCH): $22
- Drug testing: a $90 after-hours fee and a $10 random selection fee
